Bangkok Art and Culture Centre invites everyone to ponder the issues surrounding our city and its environment during "City Adaptation Lab!" and "Paradise Lost" which are being held on the 7th and 8th floor, until April 24.
Both exhibitions are part of "Urban In Progress", a collaborative contemporary art project that explores various inter-disciplinary skills for disaster risk management and a fair distribution in the quality of life for urbanites.
The "City Adaptation Lab!" exhibition takes visitors to explore the ways in which humans adapt in parallel with nature for survival, particularly during the Covid-19 pandemic. On display are 15 creations by a group of diverse creators including artists, designers, architects, conservationists, academics, actors and YouTubers. They reflect their point of view about sustainable living and the challenges city dwellers may face while adjusting for the future.
By using augmented reality and virtual reality, the exhibition encourages everyone to introspect and raise questions in order to help each other find ways to progress and happily live in the city.
"Paradise Lost", meanwhile, portrays the relationships between the city and nature and the impact of human intervention on nature, with the aim to remind people of what they are leaving behind for the next generation.
It features 12 exhibitions by creators from different professions, including a historian, a botanist, landscape architects, contemporary artists, a performance artist, a graphic designer and a ceramicist.
They encourage viewers to look at Bangkok from a new perspective where human beings are simply a small fraction of nature and learn to adapt themselves amid social and cultural change.
The art centre is at the Pathumwan intersection and opens Tuesday to Sunday from 10am to 7pm. There is no admission fee.
