See the Chester-le-Street teen of key worker family singing Hallelujah at Clap for Carers

A talented teenager whose family is on the frontline fighting coronavirus has been singing to neighbours during lockdown.

Lily McArdle, 15, has been singing outside her Chester-le-Street home as part of the nation’s Clap for Carers tribute that recognises the efforts of key workers during the covid-19 crisis.

Her mum, dad and older sister are all key workers and have been supporting their communities during the outbreak.

Lily said: “It started with me singing Somewhere Over the Rainbow and grew from there.

“I started dropping leaflets through doors asking for requests and people voting on songs and I sang the most requested ones. It has gone from one song to two songs.”

Lily, who has been bullied at school, added: “It has not only helped my confidence but it is nice to know that I am helping people."

Lily’s mum, Caroline works in the youth offence service, and her dad, Craig, is a police community support officer, while her sister, Molly, is a community carer and works with the vulnerable and elderly.

Lilly said: “I love how the community comes together and comes out to clap.

“It feels quite special, how we are clapping for people in my family as well.”
