See smoke billowing over Boldon School after fire breaks out

A fire has broken out at a school in South Tyneside.

Smoke could be seen billowing over Boldon School after the blaze broke out on Wednesday afternoon.

Firefighters are currently tackling the fire and have told residents to keep their windows closed.

Video taken at the scene shows the thick black clouds of smoke blowing over a nearby housing estate in Boldon.

A spokesperson for Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service tweeted: "We are currently dealing with a large fire at a commercial building in the #Boldon area.

"We have 5 pumping appliances and an aerial appliance in attendance, with our command unit on route.

"Residents in the surrounding areas of New Road are advised to keep their windows closed."

The fire service were unable to provide any further updates at this time.
