A dishwasher has been identified as the cause of a devastating blaze that ripped through a Northumberland home.
Fire crews from Rothbury, Bellingham and Alnwick rushed to a property in Alwinton on Tuesday at 9.36am after a member of the public walking past ran to a nearby pub to raise the alarm.
The community rallied using domestic water supplies and any fire extinguishers they could lay their hands on before emergency services arrived.
The officer in charge of the incident said the actions of locals saved the house from being totally destroyed by the fire.
The cause of the fire has been established as a dishwasher which caught fire during its cycle.
Images released by the fire service reveal the extent of the damage caused by the blaze.
There was no one in the property when the fire broke out and no injuries were reported.
The three appliances that attended the incident were stood down at 11.42am.
Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service has issued advice to members of the public following the blaze.
A spokesman said: "Our fire safety tips are as follows: Register your appliances with the manufacturer to allow them to contact you about recalls and respond to any recall notices.
"Don't run appliances when you are out or at night when you are asleep.
"Have an escape plan from your property.
"Make sure you have working smoke alarms and test your smoke alarms weekly."
