See playful pod of dolphins spotted off Whitley Bay on hottest day of year

These dolphins were spotted off the North East coast on the hottest day of the year so far.

With temperatures hitting around 23C on Wednesday, many people were able to enjoy the sun, whether at home or during their exercise outdoors.

And these wonderful marine creatures also took the opportunity to enjoy our coastal waters.

A pod of bottlenose dolphins was seen off the shore, between Whitley Bay and Cullercoats Bay, in North Tyneside, on Wednesday morning.

Some people were able to catch a glimpse of them up close, including those on trawlers.

There have been similar sightings off the Northumberland coast recently, including some dolphins seen between Alnmouth and Seahouses some days ago.
