See on board the luxurious cruise ship which sailed up the River Tyne

Step on board the luxurious cruise ship which sailed up the River Tyne.

Cunard's Queen Victoria docked at the Port of Tyne on Tuesday carrying 2,000 passengers on a 12-night voyage around the British Isles.

The 294m long ship has 12 passenger decks and got a £34m refit in 2017.

Luxurious and decadent throughout, it is designed to look like the ocean liners which defined the golden age of cruising.

Port of Tyne's Andy Foster said: “We’re delighted to welcome Cunard’s Queen Victoria, almost 20 years after we welcomed Cunard’s Royal Viking Sun, our first ever cruise call, on August 30, 1999.

“In celebration of Queen Victoria’s maiden call, the Port of Tyne arranged for a Northumbrian Piper to welcome her arrival, alongside the traditional plaque exchange on board.”

It started its journey in Southampton before heading to the North East and will stop in Edinburgh next.

On board, passengers can access a full theatre, a ballroom, a traditional pub, a champagne bar and a club with a 270-degree view of the sea.

There is also a spa and gym, a pool, a large sunning area and an incredible 6,000-book library.
