See Notre Dame RB Chris Tyree pull off an explosive 96-yard kick return TD

Most of the highly anticipated Notre Dame-Wisconsin matchup Saturday at Soldier Field in Chicago was a low-scoring game filled with a lot of punts, a few turnovers and an early missed field goal.

But easily the most explosive play of the game came early in the fourth quarter, and it was incredible. Wisconsin had just taken a 13-10 lead less than a minute into the fourth, and this kick return was Chris Tyree’s moment to shine.

The Fighting Irish sophomore running back caught the ball inside the 5-yard line, and he took off with seemingly effortless speed while weaving through Badgers with some solid blocking help. And by the time Tyree got to about the 40-yard line, he had every Wisconsin defender beat as he bolted to the opposite end zone for a stunning 96-yard kick return.

That’s some truly amazing speed, and broadcaster Gus Johnson flipped out: “TYREE, WHOA!” Once Tyree hit midfield, it was clear there was nothing Wisconsin could do to stop him.

(FOX Sports’ tweet describes it as a 98-yard touchdown, but it’s officially been called a 96-yarder.)

Per the FOX Sports’ broadcast, that was Tyree’s third kick return touchdown in his career, and it was a wild one that gave Notre Dame a 17-13 lead with about 14 minutes left in the fourth quarter.
