See Metrocentre's new Zucchini Pasta Bar as it prepares to open its doors

New images show a first look inside the latest addition to the dining scene at the Metrocentre.

Independent restaurant Zucchini Pasta Bar is ready to open its doors in the Gateshead shopping centre - its second branch after its 55 Degrees North site in Newcastle.

The result of new opportunities emerging for the company during the pandemic, the pasta bar will be open to first customers in Metrocentre's Qube on Monday as lockdown restrictions lift.

There it will be serving up its Italian menu which boasts fresh hand-rolled Northern Italian-style egg pasta dishes.

Founded in 2016 by Newcastle chef Alan Barker, when it was the only fresh pasta bar in the city centre, it has built up a reputation for using local produce and Italian imported ingredients - as well as for what it calls "the best garlic bread in Newcastle".

Its new home sees it positioned alongside the likes of Nando’s, Wagamama and TGI Fridays.

Alan said that this expansion seemed like the "natural next step" for the company.

“We are super excited to be bringing Zucchini Pasta Bar to such an iconic destination as the Metrocentre," he said.

"The freshest handrolled pasta, served in a few minutes, at an affordable price point is what we’re all about and it’s perfect for the centre."
