See it: Baker Mayfield pays up after lost ROY bet with Saquon Barkley

In the weeks — and even the months — leading up to the NFL Honors Award Show, there was a fierce debate over who would win the 2018 AP NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Award: New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley or Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield.

The two friends had such fun with it, and were each equally as confident, that they placed a bet — loser buys the winner a chain.

“He’s a heck of a player. He’s doing a tremendous job and I truly think it’s going to be a good competition. We’ve got a little bet. Hopefully I’ll win that bet. But like I said, I can’t say anything bad about him. I respect him as a player and as a person,” Barkley told Cleveland.com of Mayfield in February.

“It’s for a chain. The loser’s got to get someone else a chain. We get to pick the chain and we get to have fun with it because obviously everyone’s talking about who’s going to win, and at the end of the day we’d love to see each other win, but we’d also love to see ourselves win too, but we made a little bet with it just to show how friendly we are that it’s bigger than just the award.”

Barkley, of course, went on to win the award, leaving Mayfield to choose the chain. And earlier this week, that bet was finally satisfied when Mayfield paid up.

Although Mayfield was on the losing end of the bet, he found his enjoyment with the chain and Barkley’s nickname — SaQuads — which was given to the running back by his former teammate, wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr.. who now ironically plays alongside Mayfield in Cleveland.

The only question remaining is whether or not we’ll ever actually see Barkley wearing his new bling.
