See inside revamped Newcastle pub whose new menu includes a signature steak with side of mac 'n' cheese

The results of a six-figure revamp are revealed at a Newcastle pub as it prepares for a busy Bank Holiday launch weekend.

The Duke of Wellington in Kenton has undergone a makeover both inside and out and, alongside its new look, it is also launching a new menu.

Out to tempt returning regulars and new customers alike are burgers - including a double XL gourmet version topped with bacon, cheese and a fried egg - and signature flame-grilled steak dishes.

One stand-out signature dish is a Double Dipped Rib Eye marinated steak which is served with onion rings as well as a side of mac ‘n’ cheese and waffle fries topped with beef burned-ends in BBQ sauce with Jack Daniel's.

The pub's new food deals will also include Steak-Tastic - a rump steak available for £5 on Mondays and Tuesdays - and Wing Wednesday: an offer of 16 wings, also for a fiver.

Those not distracted by the menu will notice a complete redesign of the pub's interior which features new booth seating and a new colour scheme alongside natural wood, new tiling and contemporary flooring to create a brighter and more modern feel.

The changes, accompanied by the creation of six jobs, also include a complete overhaul of the bar, with a new back bar also added as well as extra drinks including more craft beers and spirits.

The Kenton Lane pub opened to first customers on Thursday in ideal time for the Bank Holiday weekend and,  as the summer weather improves, its improved outdoor area is set to attract crowds with its modern seating, new lighting and a watering station for dogs.

General manager Robert Snowdon: "The opening was a real success, with everyone commenting on the fantastic revamped interior and improved drinks range.

"We look forward to welcoming loyal and new guests over the coming months."

He added: “The Duke of Wellington has always been popular with Kenton locals, so we are really excited to be able to provide an even better place for guests to enjoy great food and drink, as well as watching all of the best sporting events."
