See inside one of the Royal Mile's oldest buildings at new haunted Fringe play

There will be plenty of Fringe shows to see come August, but some stand out more than others - and a play set in a 550-year old tenement building is definitely one of them.

A Game of Death and Chance has been commissioned by The National Trust for Scotland and will take place inside one of the Royal Mile's oldest buildings, Gladstone's Land.

It was once the home to wealthy residents and still boasts hand-painted Renaissance interiors that date back to the 1620s and make it feel every bit the grand home it once was.

Fast forward to 2019 and it is the set of a haunted play that uses the real-life history of the Old Town building to tell visitors its story, featuring ghostly characters from the past.

The play spans through the ages - from the period of the Union of the Crowns in 1603, when King James IV of Scotland united the monarchies, to the Action of Union in 1707.

You will hear tales of disease, plague and death, witches and burnings, riots and executions, and more gruesome stories from the ghosts that lived through them, including a  publican, an investor and a spy.

The immersive experience will see the audience control the story; you will be asked to make choices that will result in different outcomes for each of the characters you meet - ultimately you decide how it ends.

A Game of Death and Chance runs from 16 July- 8 September. Tickets cost £15.00 for adults and £12.00 for children and can be purchased from The National Trust for Scotland website here.
