See Gillian Anderson transform into Margaret Thatcher in first look photos from The Crown season 4

First look images from the fourth series of The Crown show Gillian Anderson posing outside 10 Downing Street in costume as former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.

The Fall star, 52, donned a bouffant wig and Thatcher’s trademark blue skirt suit in the scene from the upcoming instalment of Netflix’s hit royal drama.

The image appears to recreate Thatcher’s arrival at Number 10 after she became the UK’s first female Prime Minister following the general election in May 1979.

Anderson is joined by Stephen Boxer, who plays Thatcher’s husband Denis.

The Crown’s fourth season will open in the late 70s. As well as documenting Thatcher’s allegedly fraught relationship with the Queen (played by Olivia Colman), it will also explore Prince Charles (Josh O’Connor)’s romance with Lady Diana Spencer (Emma Corrin).

The nation’s fascination with their seemingly fairytale courtship, culminating in the wedding of the century, and the media’s obsession with the people’s princess will also feature in the upcoming episodes.

A previous teaser trailer for the series showed Corrin’s Diana wearing an exact replica of the late Princess’s bridal dress as she prepared to travel to St Paul’s Cathedral for her wedding.

Helena Bonham Carter is set to reprise her role as the Queen’s younger sister Princess Margaret, with Tobias Menzies also set to return as Prince Philip.

Series four of The Crown will be available to stream on Netflix from November 15. Series one to three are available now.
