See driver's eye view of deserted East Coast Main Line from Edinburgh to King's Cross

Regular rail users will be familiar with the stunning views of rolling countryside and picturesque beaches along the East Coast Mainline.

And, as many of us haven't set foot on a train since the coronavirus lockdown began almost six weeks ago, LNER have decided to bring those views to you.

In a six-minute time lapse video, the rail company have captured a journey from Edinburgh Waverley to London King's Cross from the perspective of the train driver.

As the service travels south through the North East, through Berwick, Alnmouth, Morpeth, Newcastle, Durham and Darlington stations, the normally busy tracks are eerily quiet as very few trains pass in the opposite direction.

But the sun in shining through most of the journey and viewers can take in the familiar sights of the stunning Northumberland and County Durham countryside from the comfort of their own homes.

A spokesperson for LNER said: "This week’s film features the entire route from Edinburgh to London King’s Cross, enabling viewers to enjoy some more of the country’s stunning scenery from the comfort of their own home, as we continue to reinforce our "stay at home" message and focus on keeping key workers on the move.

"Other routes featured on the LNER YouTube channel include London King’s Cross to Leeds, Leeds to Harrogate. We will be adding further journeys over the coming weeks."

The footage has been viewed nearly 7,000 times since it was uploaded on to YouTube on April 27.
