See devastation after fire breaks out at North Shields allotments

This is the scene of devastation left behind after a fire ripped through allotments in North Shields.

Firefighters were called to the scene after the fire broke out at the River View allotments on Tanners' Bank on Sunday evening.

Neighbours were asked by Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service to shut windows and doors as they dealt with the blaze at around 10pm.

Photos show how allotment buildings overlooking Tanners' Bank were destroyed by the blaze.

The buildings were left blackened and smoke damaged despite the efforts of firefighters.

So far, it is unclear what caused the outbreak of the fire.

Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service has been approached for comment.
