See danger driver lead police on 10-mile police chase through Consett and Stanley

A man has been jailed following a 10-mile high-speed pursuit in County Durham.

Bilal Havid, from the Chester-le-Street area, was handed an 18-month sentence and disqualified from driving for three years and nine months at Durham Crown Court on Monday.

The 26-year-old led officers on a 10-mile chase around Consett and Stanley, despite having only been released from prison a month before.

The pursuit took place on January 10, when PCs Anderson and Liddle attempted to stop Havid’s Audi A8 on Sherburn Terrace.

Havid failed to stop and was driving at high speed towards oncoming traffic. He also took a roundabout in the wrong direction during the police pursuit.

After abandoning the vehicle and making off on foot, Havid was quickly arrested.

He was subsequently charged with dangerous driving, driving whilst disqualified, failing to stop for police, and driving without insurance.
