See Black Friday crowds in Newcastle as shoppers head out early to grab a bargain

Black Friday shoppers were out early in the morning looking for bargains in Newcastle but crowds didn't seem to be as crazy as they have been in previous years.

Our photographer was out first thing this morning, Friday, November 26 to see how busy the city centre was on what is considered to be the biggest shopping event of the year.

Northumberland Street was bustling with shoppers as early as 10am with many people clutching big bags of items.

Fenwick, JD and Footasylumn appeared to be among the most popular shops of the morning and many stores had large signs in their windows and outside promoting their Black Friday deals.

But despite many people heading out first thing to see what was on offer, there were no huge crowds and queues to be seen on Northumberland Street.

However, the city's Eldon Square shopping centre has confirmed a range of discounts that may entice shoppers over the weekend, with some deals offering customers up to 80% off some products.

But shoppers will have to be quick as most deals are set to finish on November 30, although a number of stores have not yet confirmed when the sales will end.

Pandora, New Look and Levis are expected to be among the favourite shops with customers looking to get their Christmas presents in as the stores offer around 20% to 30% off lines.

It comes as retail experts have predicted that shoppers will spend almost £9 billion over the course of Black Friday.

Spending is expected to rise beyond pre-pandemic levels as shoppers seek to spend more on loved ones following disrupted Christmas celebrations last year.
