Game 4 of the World Series had one of the wildest endings in its history, with a pinch hit resulting in multiple defensive errors, a slip on the basepath, and still a come-from-behind Rays win that had to be seen to be believed.
We’ve watched it. We’ve done an extensive, Sherlock Holmes-esque breakdown to try and figure out who’s responsible on the Dodgers.
But now MLB has released a new camera angle of the play, taken from the first base line. And it’s incredible.
What’s so amazing is that you get to see so much of the emotion of the play unfold, while not having your eyes drawn to the ball. You see Dodgers pitcher Kenley Jansen react to the hit, and his realization that he’s blown the save. You see the tumble after Randy Arozarena rounds third, then the jubilation as he realizes the Dodgers misplayed the ball at home and he can score. You see the Rays react in real time as they understand they’ve won the game, and sprint to tackle pinch hitter Brett Phillips.
