Security volunteer shot dead in Pattani

PATTANI: A village defence volunteer was shot dead while riding his motorcycle in Mayo district late on Sunday night.

Anapi Ye was killed by a motorcycle gunman near Ban Kraso School in Mayo district, police officers said at the crime scene on Monday morning.

The 39-year-old volunteer had ridden his motorcycle to a meeting with villagers. 

 People who knew Anapi told police he was a good-natured man who never quarrelled with others.

Police believed he was targeted for attack by insurgents.

Last Thursday, a policeman in Narathiwat was also shot dead in an ambush. Police also believed that was the work of insurgents.
