JORHAT: A day after five Assam Police personnel were killed and about 70 others injured in a border clash with Mizoram, security measures were beefed up along areas bordering Nagaland in Jorhat district on Tuesday.
“Security measures have been intensified in all the vulnerable destinations along the inter-state boundary. Security forces have been put on high alert to prevent any untoward incident. Regular patrolling and checking are being conducted,” said a police officer in Jorhat.
He added, “We have received strict instructions from top officials to ensure law and order in the disputed areas. Besides anti-social elements, members of some rebel groups are active along the border.”
In the meanwhile, some unidentified miscreants from Nagaland allegedly took away a calf from New Honwal Bongaon along the Assam-Nagaland border around 2 pm on Monday. According to locals, they had fired in the air and a blank cartridge was also found at the spot.
