Asda and Tesco in Falkirk have drafted in security at their petrol stations as drivers form large queues for fuel.
Hundreds of motorists have flocked to supermarkets for their diesel and petrol this afternoon, Friday September, 23, over fears pumps could run dry.
Earlier we told you how Asda bosses insisted that they had enough fuel at their Grangemouth site and urged people to act responsibly.
Pictures have since appeared on social media of security guards stationed at petrol pumps as rows of traffic form.
One person, who does not want to be named, told Falkirk Live: "It was absolutely carnage at Asda in Grangemouth this morning.
"You'd think there was an evacuation notice in the town and everyone was rushing to buy petrol and diesel.
"This is how shortages occur, there was even one guy filling up petrol cans after filling up his car.
"I had to pop back to Asda because I forgot something and by that time they had two security guys turning cars away and making sure people were not being greedy.
"It's laughable it has come to this."
