An off-duty security guard subjected a police officer to a 'demeaning and upsetting' verbal attack in which he called her 'Coronavirus'.
Jay Delbuono was arrested at the Lacehouse pub, Broadway, Nottingham, in the early hours of February 29 last year.
He was taken to the Bridewell custody suite, in Nottingham city centre, where he turned his attention to the policewoman, who was of Chinese origin, and he said the word "coronavirus" at her.
He kicked items and said to the female officer "Oi! coronavirus. Get a mask on her. **** her off out of the country".
The officer made the point in her statement that the wider impact of his behaviour clearly caused her some distress.
Delbuono, 29, of Russell Drive Wollaton, pleaded guilty to racially-aggravated harassment and was fined £750 and ordered to pay costs of £250.
Sentencing him, Judge Stuart Rafferty QC, said: "To abuse a person of Chinese family origin in the way you did, as Covid was beginning, must have been particularly demeaning and upsetting for her".
Delbuono, a security guard at nightclubs and bars, has four convictions for six offences including for violence and failure to comply with court orders.
