A security guard has been released from custody after police said he shot a man during an argument near Grant Park Sunday.

The guard, a 23-year-old man, shot the man in the abdomen around 10:20 p.m. in the 100 block of North Lake Shore Drive, Chicago police said.

The wounded man, 34, was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition, police said.

Police initially said the guard was arrested and that charges were pending. But on Wednesday, police said the guard was released while the Cook County state’s attorney’s office continued its investigation.

The state’s attorney’s office and the Chicago Park District, which employs guards in the area of the shooting, did not immediately reply to requests for comment.
