A security guard was left injured outside ASDA after being threatened by a masked knife gang.
Police were called to the supermarket on Utting Avenue, in Walton , shortly before 4pm to reports of a robbery .
It is believed that a security guard was threatened with a knife by three masked men wearing all black clothes.
There was a struggle between the security guard and the men who managed to steal cash before running from the scene.
The guard suffered an injury to his hand during the robbery before police arrived at the scene.
According to Merseyside Police , the robbers were described as around 6ft 2in tall and were wearing black clothing.
One of the offenders was wearing a facial covering and a grey hood.
In a statement, the force said: "An investigation is underway and CCTV, witness and forensic enquiries are being carried out.
Detective Sergeant Laura Parr, said: “We are carrying out a number of enquiries in the area and I would ask anyone who witnessed the incident, or has any information, to please get in touch.
“I would also appeal to any motorists who may have been in the area to check their dash-cam footage.
"To be the victim of a robbery while simply carrying out your job is unacceptable and I have no doubt the security guard has been left incredibly shaken.
"If you have any information, no matter how small, please let us know so we can find those responsible.”
