KHON KAEN: A security guard attached to the War Veterans Organisation (WVO) was killed in an accident involving his motorcycle and two cars on a bypass in Muang district early on Sunday.

Pol Lt Col Nonpurich Detthanakul, deputy Muang police chief in charge of traffic, said the accident occurred at about 1am at a U-turn near Ban Nong Saeng in tambon Phra Lap on the Khon Kaen - Kalasin bypass.

Police rushed to the scene and found the man lying dead on the road near a badly damaged Honda motorcycle.   From the name tag on his shirt, the man was identified as Preecha Paiyaposri, a security guard attached to a security office under the WVO.  He was about 20-25 years of age.

Eyewitnesses told the police that Preecha's motorcycle was hit by a car.  The impact threw him to the middle of the road, where he was run over by an oncoming car, killing him instantly.

Pol Lt Col Nonpurich said that poor lighting at the spot might have contributed to the accident.  Police would examine footage from surveillance cameras in the area to track down the cars, which sped away.
