Security guard arrested over alleged assault of patron outside Palmerston's Landmark hotel

Security guard arrested over incident at Palmerston nightclub

A security guard has been arrested over an alleged assault outside a pub in Palmerston, near Darwin, after video emerged of a patron being grabbed by the neck and thrown to the ground.

A video published on social media over the weekend appears to show the security guard speaking to a patron outside the Landmark hotel in Palmerston before grabbing him around the neck and pushing him into a wall.

The man's body appears to go limp before the security guard throws him to the ground.

On Monday afternoon police issued a statement saying a 36-year-old crowd controller had been arrested.

They described the incident as an alleged assault but charges are yet to be laid.

The 29-year-old victim was treated in hospital for facial injuries after the incident, which police said happened in the early hours of Saturday morning.

"Police are aware that footage is circulating on social media and would like to thank members of the public who reported the offence," Detective Senior Sergeant Annette Cooper said in the statement.

"Police would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident or who has footage of the assault."

Earlier in the day security company Neptune NT said the guard had been stood down pending an investigation.

Landmark also issued a statement saying the guard would no longer work at the venue.
