The UN Security Council on Thursday condemned "in the strongest terms" escalating Houthi attacks on civilian infrastructure in Saudi Arabia and called on the militias "to cease such attacks immediately."
A statement approved by all 15 Council members welcomed efforts exerted by Saudi Arabia for a dialogue on Yemen in Jeddah to resolve the crisis.
Council members underlined their “full support” for the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General for Yemen, Martin Griffiths, and called on the Yemeni government and the Houthis “to engage constructively and continuously with him.”
“The Security Council is particularly concerned by recent developments in the south of Yemen, including the violent attempt to take over state institutions. It calls on all involved parties to show restraint and to preserve Yemen’s territorial integrity,” said the statement.
“The Council welcomes and fully supports the efforts by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to convene a dialogue in Jeddah to resolve the situation, and calls on all parties to engage constructively to make those efforts a success,” it added.
