What’s new: The China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC) has named Yan Bojin as the new head of its Department of Public Offering Supervision.
The CSRC informed Caixin on Monday of the appointment, and added the watchdog’s internal contact lists have been updated to reflect it.
What’s the background: Yan has worked at multiple local branches of the CSRC. He has served as head of its Anhui provincial branch and in 2014 was appointed head of its Shanghai branch.
Yan’s experience in helping to set up the Shanghai Stock Exchange’s Nasdaq-style high-tech STAR Market could come in handy in his new role. Yin Rongyan, the current head of the department, will move to serve as chairman of China Securities Investor Protection Fund Corp. Ltd.
The department of public offering supervision is considered the main body in charge of the reform of the registration-based system for initial public offerings, and it will be a big test for the new head, a source close to the CSRC said.
