Sections of Skegness Pier set to reopen as coronavirus lockdown is eased

Sections of Skegness Pier will be reopened from next week.

The popular tourist attraction shut, like many others, on March 21 at the start of the coronavirus lockdown but management have always said they would be monitoring the situation, Lincolnshire Live reports.

Now it's been announced that sections of the pier will be reopening from June 15.

The Pier Casino, Cheryl's Pier Kiosk and Whippy Dippy's Snack Station are now all set to reopen.

In a statement on social media, those who manage the pier said: "Great news! In line with the Government's latest advice, following strict hygiene procedure, we will be opening the following sections of Skegness Pier from June 15.

"Until further Government advice is given, we are unsure of an exact date that we will be able to open other facilities.

"Please keep an eye on our Facebook page for further updates."

Tourist businesses on the coast were among the thousands across the UK which were forced shut down on March 23 when the Government put the country into lockdown in an effort to halt the spread of Covid-19.

As lockdown restrictions begin to loosen, some of the four million tourists who visit Skegness every year have started to return, with traders beginning to open up once more.
