Section of M74 to close overnight for a fortnight during August to allow essential work to be carried out

A northbound stretch of the M74 in Lanarkshire will be closed overnight for almost two weeks next month for essential maintenance.

The complete closure between Junctions 6 and Junction 5 will start from Monday, August 3 until Saturday, August 15.

Works will take place between 8pm and 6am each night, with the road will re-opening as normal out with these times.

The work will be carried out by Scottish Road Partnership (SRP) on behalf of Transport Scotland and will be delivered by maintenance company Amey.

A signed diversion route will be in operation during the hours of closure.

Northbound traffic on the M74 will exit at the Junction 6 off slip road to the A72 and proceed to the B7071 Bothwell Road. From here traffic will join the A7071 and return to northbound M74 via the Junction 5 on slip road.

Traffic on the northbound Junction 6 on slip roads will join the southbound M74 and turn at junction 7, and traffic joining the M74 northbound at Junction 7 will be directed to follow the same diversion.

Traffic leaving Hamilton Services will be diverted via the rear exit onto the A72 and follow the diversion above.

The works are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if conditions are not favourable.
