Section of M60 closed as heavy rain causes flooding

Heavy rain is taking its toll on the roads, with a section of the M60 being closed due to flooding.

A slip road of the motorway near Whitefield is currently shut following downpours this afternoon.

It comes as police urge motorists to slow down due to the inclement weather.

Highways England said officers are at the scene managing the situation, at the anticlockwise exit slip road at junction 17.

A tweet read: "The #M60 anticlockwise exit slip road at #J17 (#Manchester #Prestwich #Whitefield #A56) is currently CLOSED due to flooding in the carriageway.

"Traffic Officers are currently at scene, Maintenance Crews are on their way to the area to assist."

A tweet from the North West Motorway Police read: "LOTS of Standing Water across the network.

"PLEASE SLOW DOWN."

In a separate closure, a section of the M60 near Stockport will remain shut until 5am tomorrow.

The clockwise carriageway between junction one and two has been closed since Friday night, as Highways England carries out weekend repair work.
