Major M6 traffic delays after HGV overturns with drivers stuck in miles of queues

Drivers have been warned to expect major delays on the M6 this morning following a crash involving a HGV.

The collision happened on the southbound carriageway between junction 17 for Sandbach and junction 16 just after 6.30am this morning.

Nobody has been injured in the crash, police say, but recovery work is underway with two lanes shut.

In a tweet, North West Motorway Police posted: "There are currently two lanes closed due to an RTC on the #M6 SB between J17 & J16. No Injuries reported & lanes likely to remain closed for the duration of the recovery."

The crash involved a lorry which has overturned, travel services have said.

As of 1pm, queues stretched nine miles and took 45 minutes for drivers to get through.

TfGM have said: "Heading south out of GM this morning? 2 of 4 lanes closed on the #M6 #southbound between #J17 - #J16 #Sandbach Due to a collision involving an overturned HGV. Recovery is ongoing. Allow extra travel time. Plan ahead."
