Section of Bristol to Bath cycle path to close next week

Walkers and cyclists have been warned a section of a popular path will be closed for up to two days next week.

The Bristol and Bath Railway Path will be shut for resurfacing between Gordon Road and Bruce Road during the week beginning June 10.

Bristol City Council has arranged for the work to be carried out after the partial failure of an earlier effort.

A diversion will be in place, taking in Carlisle Road and Greenbank Road, with the council promising disruption will be kept to a minimum.

The 13-mile-long path begins in Bristol and passes through Mangotsfield, Warmley and Saltford before finishing in the heart of Bath.

In a statement, the council said: "Last month work took place to resurface the path, including the removal of tree roots and laying of new tarmac. Tree roots have caused considerable damage in this location.

"Whilst the removal of the tree roots was a success, the quality of the surfacing was below the acceptable standard, and the contractor will now be carrying out work to correct this."

The council has not confirmed exactly which days the path will be shut on, Bristol Live has asked for more information and will update this story when we get it.
