Secret weapon that could help Leeds United secure Rodrigo De Paul transfer from Udinese this summer

Leeds United will play their first Premier League match in 16 years on Saturday, as they travel to last season’s champions Liverpool.

It’s been a busy summer so far for Marcelo Bielsa and the club’s hierarchy, as they look to build a squad capable of competing in the top-flight.

The Whites have already signed seven players - some new and some being loan deals that have now turned permanent.

It looks like Bielsa is still searching for a few more players before the window shuts in a months’ time.

Leeds: 2020/21 season in preview

Leeds have already bolstered their ranks in the past few weeks, landing SC Freiburg defender Robin Koch and Spain international Rodrigo from Valencia for a club-record fee.

Now, the Whites are aiming to add even more quality to the squad in the shape of Udinese midfielder star Rodrigo De Paul.

The Argentina international is considered as one of the most creative players in Serie A and has attracted Leeds' attention.

And their pursuit of De Paul could be helped by the fact that he has previously played with Rodrigo Moreno at Valencia.

Arriving in a $6.5 million deal, he signed a five-year deal with Los Che in June 2014, and went on to make 32 appearances for the Spanish side, scoring once and claiming four assists.

Udinese stepped up their preparations for the start of the new season on Thursday evening, facing Legano in a friendly.

However, there was no place for De Paul in the squad, suggesting that he could soon be on his way out of the Serie A club.

But transfer expert Nicolo Schira recently claimed that high-flying Leicester City have joined the race for De Paul.

He claims that the Whites have put a four-year contract on the table but that the Foxes have now joined the bidding.
