Secret Santa mystery solved as Lanarkshire woman who knitted 90 teddies for kids 'all smiles' from loving response

The mystery of Hamilton 's secret Santa, who knitted dozens of cuddly toys for kids to collect outside school, has been solved.

But in a humble gesture to keep the magic of Christmas alive, the kind-hearted hero wishes to stay anonymous as many more children receive their hand-crafted gifts over the festive season.

Following an appeal to find and thank the unknown toy maker earlier this week, the generous lady got in touch with Lanarkshire Live after seeing how happy one of her teddies made a little girl.

Four-year-old Brooke O’Donnell was over the moon when she was given her knitted dog and has taken it everywhere with her since her mum Claire came across it last week.

“I would just like her to know that it’s had such a positive impact on my daughter", Claire told us.

The Lanarkshire secret Santa said she was "all smiles" when she heard of Brooke's love for her new gift.

Her random act of kindness has inspired the young family - and seeing the loving reaction of her teddies has made it all worthwhile.

She said: "I've been knitting them for about a year and a half so I had about 90 saved up. I put them in bags and placed them around the neighbourhood for children to find.

"My children went to Our Lady of St Anne's Primary and I've always knitted for their Christmas fairs, but obviously because of COVID they've been cancelled so I didn't know what to do with all these teddies.

"So I decided to put them round where the children lived and hopefully they'd be able to pick them up.

"I just wanted to give them smiles because it's been so hard for all the kids right now. I just wanted to make people happy.

"It makes you smile. I haven't stopped smiling since I read Brooke's reaction to her teddy, and she named it as well, that was so lovely.

"It makes it all worthwhile and makes the young ones believe in the meaning of Christmas. And inspire them to pass on the kindness in any way they can and that any wee thing can make someone smile."

The teddies have been seen dotted about the town, carefully wrapped and attached to school fences with a note wishing youngsters a Merry Christmas.

The lovely gesture has inspired many to pass on an act of kindness and keep the Christmas spirit alive.
