Secret Larder – the new Bristol café where you can draw on the tables

A garage in Easton has been transformed into a café with art and creativity running through its core.

The Secret Larder exhibits artwork from 30 local artists and encourages visitors to draw on tables with chalk pens.

The unique venue is being headed up by three people from Bristol, who became friends while working at The Greenbank on Belle Vue Road.

Initially it will only be open between Thursday and Saturday during the summer months, but there is scope to make it permanent if everything goes to plan, explained Flora Jayne Camacho.

"We're so excited to finally be open and can't wait to meet people from the community," said the 28-year-old graphic designer, whose studio is at the back of the building.

"We want to take things back to basics with the café - we want to encourage conversation and debate among customers and would prefer it if people aren't on their phones or laptops.

"It's a place where people can come and hang out and have a chat, and get creative by drawing on the tables if they want to.

"The menu includes options for vegans and meat-eaters as well as people who have gluten intolerance.

"This space was previously only used to store my motorbike, so I'm thrilled that it's been turned into something a bit more special."

Working alongside Flora is Texas Skeete, 27, and Jack Schwed, 26. The trio wanted to combine running a café with their creative talents.

All food used is locally-sourced and heading up the kitchen is a chef who previously worked at highly-rated restaurant Birch in Southville.

The café is entirely plastic-free and everything used is recycled, while customers must bring their own reusable cups with them.

The Secret Larder is located at 62 Heron Road and its opening hours are Thursday - Saturday 9am until 2.30pm.
