Bowls community mourns loss of second member from bus rollover in western Victoria

A second passenger who was on a bus that rolled over on a country Victorian highway last week, leaving a local bowls community traumatised, has died.

The bus was carrying 28 passengers from a bowling competition in Mildura when it veered off the road and down an embankment on the Sunraysia highway near Moonambel, last Saturday.

Ethel Glenister, 87, from Beaufort, died in hospital on Saturday morning.

Chairman of the Ballarat District Bowls Division (BDBD) Sandra Chapman said a candlelight vigil would be held on Sunday night to remember Ms Glenister.

"We've very saddened to hear that Ethel has passed away, and we're holding a vigil to help continue with the healing process," she said.

"She was a very quiet lady, she's going to be very sadly missed by her club and by all."

Seventeen people were hospitalised following the accident, and three people were airlifted to Melbourne with serious injuries.

Dozens of emergency service workers dealt with the chaotic scene, around 10 kilometres north-west of Avoca in the state's west.

Carmel Mitchell, 71, died at the scene.

A candlelight vigil held on Tuesday night was attended by about 140 people, and bowls clubs events marked the accident on Saturday.

"The clubs are all very supportive of each other, it's been very uplifting to see how they've all worked together to try to help one another through this tragedy," Ms Chapman said.

"Clubs wore black bands and I know several clubs had a minutes' silence.

"We felt it was important that they start to get together, it didn't matter that the bowling wasn't as good as normal, I think the important part was that they were together, they could talk and share."
