Second woman charged with manslaughter over Sydney beauty clinic death

Police have charged a second person over the death of a woman after a botched breast procedure at an inner-Sydney clinic last week.

Jean Huang, 35, went into cardiac arrest during a procedure at the Medi Beauty Clinic in Chippendale on August 30.

Ms Huang, the clinic's manager, was taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital where she died two days later.

Following investigations by Redfern local area command, police arrested a 29-year-old woman on Thursday morning.

She was charged with manslaughter, using poison to endanger life and hindering an investigation into a serious indictable offence.

The woman was refused bail and will appear before Burwood Local Court on Friday.

She is the second person to be charged over Ms Huang's death.

A 33-year-old Chinese tourist, Jie Shao, was charged with manslaughter, recklessly inflicting grievous bodily harm and using poison to endanger life.

Prosecutors said Shao administered a local anaesthetic and breast filler to Ms Huang, despite having no medical qualifications in Australia.

Shao is due to face court again next month.

The Medi Beauty Clinic, located in the Central Park Mall on Broadway, near Central Station, has been closed since Ms Huang's death.

Its website advertises a variety of skin treatments, laser hair removal and anti-wrinkle injections.

"We can assure you that all of our treatments and equipment meet the highest industry standards and conform to all required legislation," it said.

"All treatment facilities, materials, resources and products meet the stringent requirements of the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA)."
