Second woman charged over fatal stabbing in January

A second woman has been charged in relation to a fatal domestic-related stabbing in Maitland in January.

Taylah McDonald, 26, was arrested at West Wallsend on Tuesday morning in relation to the fatal stabbing of feared standover man Michael John Carroll at a Tenambit residence on Saturday, January 16.

It comes after emergency services were called to a Ronald Street property shortly before 7.30pm that evening to reports a man had been injured.

They arrived to find a 51-year-old man suffering stab wounds to the stomach.

Despite the efforts of police and paramedics, he died at the scene.

A 23-year-old woman, who was known to him, was arrested at the scene and later charged and charged with murder. She remains before the courts and is currently on conditional bail.

A crime scene was established at the home and detectives from Port Stephens-Hunter Police District commenced Strike Force Creekborough to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death.

Following extensive inquiries, strike force detectives arrested Ms McDonald and charged her with accessory after the fact to murder and hinder discovery evidence re: serious indictable offence.

She was initially refused bail to appear at Newcastle Local Court on Tuesday, where she was granted conditional bail to appear at Maitland Local Court on Monday, December 20.

Investigations under Strike Force Creekborough are continuing.
