A Victorian woman will have to go on trial for murder a second time, after a jury could not reach a verdict on whether she directed her husband to kill her ex-partner.
Prosecutors accused Biannca Edmunds, 34, of directing, encouraging or assisting Glen Cassidy to murder Michael Caposiena.
Mr Cassidy killed Mr Caposiena, shooting him in the head at his Melbourne home in March 2016, before he himself died of stab wounds at the scene.
Edmunds faced a month-long trial in Victoria's Supreme Court, with a 12-person jury deliberating over their verdict for two full days.
The jury returned on Tuesday and said it could not reach a verdict.
"You're not going to reach a verdict, am I right about that?" Justice Lex Lasry asked the jury.
"You are, Your Honour," the jury's representative said.
Justice Lasry discharged the jury.
"These things happen from time to time, the jury simply can't agree," he said.
"There is no choice but to discharge you and the trial will be done again."
The matter was adjourned to a directions hearing on Friday.
