A GREATER Anglia train has derailed near Wickford in Essex.
Images shared on social media show at least three train carriages appear to have come off the tracks but have remained upright.
Emergency services are at the scene, with two helicopters pictured by locals just hours after industry bosses insisted railways were safe to use in hot weather.
The assurance came after the 2.24pm London Victoria to Eastbourne service derailed off the tracks outside Lewes on Thursday, the hottest day of the year with temperatures reaching 38 degrees.
Following the second derailment Greater Anglia have said: “If you have already started your journey, please speak to a member of staff or use a help point for assistance on completing your journey.
“We are gathering reports of reports of an incident between Southend Victoria and Wickford.
“We are currently awaiting further details and will provide updates as soon as possible.”
The British Transport Police said no injuries have been reported.
They said: "Officers are currently on scene just south of Wickford railway station in Essex following reports that the rear carriages of a train have derailed in an upright position at 2.12pm today.
"We’re responding alongside paramedics and the fire service. There are currently no reported injuries."
A National Rail spokesperson said all lines were blocked between Southend Victoria and Wickford with disruption expected until at least 6pm.
They added: “We are dealing with a derailment incident in Anglia, and we are working quickly to understand the situation and to provide assistance where needed.
“We will provide further information in due course.”
Local councillor Alex Myers said: “I am aware of reports that a train has derailed in Wickford.
“The footbridge across the line from Salcott Crescent to Russell Gardens is closed and emergency services are in attendance.
“Updates will be provided from the council, emergency services and Greater Anglia as they become available.
“My thoughts are with all those onboard and hope there are no serious injuries.”
On Thursday, around 150 people had been on board the service from London Victoria to Eastbourne, which was evacuated.
Two people were taken to major trauma centres with “severe” injuries following the incident and British Transport Police said the injuries are not deemed to be life-threatening.
The Rail Accident Investigations Branch (RAIB) said on Friday it will provide a further update "next week once we know more".
