Second time lucky? A90 in Edinburgh to shut this weekend after October closure postponed

The A90 in Edinburgh will shut this weekend at the second time of asking after the previous October closure was postponed.

The busy route's main carriageway will be off-limits to motorists between 8pm on Friday to 8pm on Sunday, and diversions will be in place.

The closure is to allow beams to be installed at the Burnshot Bridge as part of the ongoing £3 million project to create a new structure.

Works got underway in April following the demolition of the original bridge two years ago, and reduced speed limits have been in operation on both the northbound and southbound routes.

The council-run social media page Edinburgh Travel News confirmed news of this weekend's closure this morning, posting: "Bridge beam installation at Burnshot will take place this weekend.

"The main A90 carriageway will be *CLOSED* 8pm Friday until approximately 8pm on Sunday.

"Traffic will be diverted via the Burnshot off and on slips in both directions, please allow some extra time."

The Burnshot Bridge project is expected to be completed in the coming months, with the new structure opening in the spring time.
