There will be, or should be, a lot of heart-searching by media editors over the handling of the story of Molly Campbell. At first it was assumed that she was kidnapped by her Muslim father and taken to Pakistan. Later 12-year-old Molly or, as she now wishes to be known, Misbah Rana, made it clear she left her mother in Scotland of her own free will. Read both this piece by Audrey Gillan and an excellent mixture of mea culpa and explanation by Kevin Bakhurst, controller, BBC News 24. "I think we now feel that we probably didn't show enough sophistication in covering the story on the first day", he writes. (Via The Guardian)
