Second teen charged with Maaka Hakiwai's murder

Police have charged a second teenager over the stabbing death of Maaka Hakiwai in Melbourne's west on AFL grand final day.

Police allege Maaka Hakiwai, 17, and his brother, Nate Hakiwai, 18, suffered stab wounds after an altercation with a group of men about 2:30pm on Main Road West in Kings Park on September 28.

They were both taken to hospital, where Maaka Hakiwai died from his injuries.

Nate Hakiwai has since been released from hospital.

On Sunday night, police charged a 17-year-old boy with murder, armed robbery and intentionally causing serious injury.

He is due to appear in a children's court today.

Last week, 18-year-old Joshua Horton faced the Melbourne Magistrates' Court charged with Maaka Hakiwai's stabbing murder and with causing serious injuries to his brother.

Police alleged Mr Horton stole a Los Angeles Kings cap worn by Nate Hakiwai while armed with a knife.

Mr Horton was remanded in custody to reappear in February next year, when a committal hearing will be held.
