Second teen arrested after shots fired at home while terrified family were inside

Two boys have now been arrested after shots were fired at a home while a terrified family were still inside.

Emergency services were called to Sundridge Street, in Dingle, on Friday evening after reports of shots being fired.

Shortly before 9pm neighbours said a number of gunshots were heard and a front window of a house was shattered.

No one was injured in the shooting but police confirmed the people inside the house at the time were left extremely shaken by the ordeal.

On Monday morning, detectives confirmed that a 16-year-old boy from Toxteth had been arrested in connection with the shooting.

And later in the day another 16-year-old, from Aigburth, was also arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.

They are both still in police custody and are being questioned by officers.

In a statement, a spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: "Detectives have this afternoon (Monday 11 January) arrested a second teenager in connection with this incident.

"The 16-year-old boy, from Aigburth, was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life. Both remain in custody at the time of writing."

Detective Chief Inspector Matt Smith from our Firearms Investigation Team said: “Although we have arrested one person in connection with this incident, extensive enquiries continue.

"We believe that this was a targeted attack, and want to hear from anyone who has yet to come forward.

“To fire a gun towards homes is incredibly dangerous and the occupants were left understandably shocked, and through good fortune, nobody was injured.

“We work hard alongside our communities and partners to tackle gun crime and other serious and organised crime in all our communities, which has led to decreasing numbers of incidents in the last few years.

“Information provided by those people who live in those areas affected by gun crime can make all the difference to removing those involved.

"So if you saw, heard or captured anything in Sundridge Street around 8.45 on Friday, please come forward and we will keep taking this positive action.
