Second person hit by train on Glasgow line in less than 24 hours

Another person has been hit by a train between Glasgow Central and Paisley Gilmour Street stations; the second in less than 24 hours.

At around 6pm on Saturday ScotRail confirmed the sad news on social media.

Services between Glasgow Central and Ayr, Largs, Ardrossan, Wemyss Bay and Gourock have been affected.

Passengers are being urged to travel between Glasgow Central and Paisley Canal, if they can.

A spokesperson said: "Sadly, we've had reports that a person has been struck by a train between Glasgow Central and Paisley Gilmour Street.

"All services between Glasgow Central and Ayr, Largs, Ardrossan, Wemyss Bay and Gourock are being disrupted.

"Glasgow Central to Paisley Canal is unaffected.

"Our services from Ayr, Largs, Ardrossan, Wemyss Bay and Gourock will operate between those stations and Paisley Gilmour Street in both directions.

"If you can, we recommend postponing your journey if it's an option for you.

"If you do need to travel between Glasgow Central and Paisley in either direction, please use our Glasgow Central to Paisley Canal services.

"Some trains which have just departed Glasgow Central for Ayrshire or Inverclyde will be returned to Glasgow Central if it's possible to do so.

"We are working closely with emergency services."

It comes less than 24 hours after another person was struck by a train on that same line.

Emergency services were called after reports of the tragic incident at around 9.45pm on Friday.

The line re-opened at 11pm.
