Second person charged in fatal beating

Nov. 04--A second person has been charged with beating a Tennessee man to death last spring after he tried to steal marijuana during a drug deal, authorities said.

Tierra M. Williams, 29, has been charged with first degree murder in connection with the March 26 attack, Chicago police said in a statement.

Police said Williams, of the 6600 block of South Rockwell Street, was identified as one of the people who fatally beat 27-year-old Aaron Morris.

Officers found Morris, of Jackson, Tenn., beaten in the 7000 block of South Vincennes in Englewood about 1:35 p.m. on March 26, police said. He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn and died days later from his injuries. His death was ruled a homicide.

Another alleged attacker, Aaron Smith, was charged last month. A spokeswoman for the Cook County State's Attorney's Office said Morris arranged to meet Smith to buy marijuana from him. After Morris bought some pot, he noticed Smith had another large bag of marjiuana, which he grabbed and then ran away, said Cook County State's Attorney spokeswoman Tandra Simonton.

Smith chased Morris and was joined by a group of other people in a second car, prosecutors said. The group caught Morris near West 70th Street and South Vincennes Avenue and began beating him until he stopped moving, prosecutors said.

Williams appeared in bond court Monday and was ordered held in lieu of $900,000 bail, according to court records. Last month, Smith was ordered held on $1 million bond in the attack, according to court records.
