Second Nottingham patient at Queen's Medical Centre dies after testing positive for coronavirus

A second patient at Queen's Medical Centre who tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19) has died.

Health bosses for Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust (NUH) confirmed on Wednesday, March 18 that a patient aged 89 with an underlying health condition had died on Monday, March 16.

The patient had tested positive for coronavirus at Queen's Medical Centre.

Their family has been informed but it has not been confirmed where the patient lived.

A patient "in his 90s" at the same hospital who also tested positive for coronavirus died on Friday, March 13.

It comes as the Government announced more than 650 case of coronavirus have been confirmed in UK over the past 24 hours, bringing the total to more than 2,600.

Dr Keith Girling, Medical Director for Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust said:

“Sadly, we can confirm that a second patient who was being cared for at Queens Medical Centre, and had tested positive for COVID-19, has died.”

“The patient, 89, with an underlying health condition, died on Monday 16 March.”

“His family has been informed and our thoughts and condolences are with them at this difficult and distressing time.”

“We continue to follow all of the appropriate infection control guidance to provide safe and effective care to our patients.

"Patients with appointments should still attend as normal unless they have a new and continuous cough or a temperature in which case they should contact the telephone number on their appointment letter for further advice.”
