Second national lockdown confirmed: All non-essential shops, pubs and restaurants ordered to close

All non-essential shops and restaurants across England are to close next week when the country is placed into a second national lockdown.

Boris Johnson addressed the nation this evening where he confirmed the new rules which were highly anticipated following earlier reports today.

He confirmed all the restaurants must close but will be able to offer takeaway options and delivery services.

All non-essential shops such as clothing stores must close. Supermarkets will be allowed to remain open, and it is not believed tougher measures as seen in Wales where non-essential items were restricted in stores will be in place in England.

The news measures will be in force from Thursday, November 5 and will be in place until December 2 at least. It is thought at this point parts of England will go back into regionalised measures.

Schools, universities and courts will remain open under these new rules and manufacturing and construction will be encouraged to continue.

There will also continue to be a ban on mixing of people inside homes, except for childcare and other forms of support.
