Second man dies following car and truck crash near Yass

The driver of a Mazda involved in a crash near Yass on Sunday has died, after the passenger of the vehicle died at the scene.

Emergency services were called to the Hume Highway near Rock Lodge Road, Lade Vale, after the Mazda 6 and a Pantec truck crashed head-on.

Officers from the Hume Police District attended and inquiries suggest a passenger in the Mazda got out and was struck by a second truck, travelling northbound.

The 21-year-old man died at the scene.

The Mazda driver, a 23-year-old man, was airlifted to Canberra Hospital in a critical condition, and died about 7.30pm on Sunday.

The two truck drivers, aged 32 and 65, were uninjured and taken to Yass Hospital for mandatory testing.

A crime scene was established, which will be examined by specialist police from the Crash Investigation Unit, while an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash is continuing.

A report will be prepared for the information of the coroner.

Two men in their 20s have died after the crash near Yass.
