Second man dies after water buffalo attack at Welsh farm

A 19-year-old man is the second person to have died after being attacked by a water buffalo near Usk.

Emergency services were called to a farm in Gwehelog, Monmouthshire, at around 2.50pm on May 5.

Ralph Jump, 57, was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics from the Welsh Ambulance Service.

It was reported at the time that Mr Jump's son was critically injured in the incident.

Gwent Police said a 19-year-old man from the Gwehelog area was taken to the University Hospital for Wales by the Welsh Air Ambulance after sustaining critical injuries and later died.

A 22-year-old woman from the Gwehelog area also sustained a serious injury to her leg. She received hospital treatment for her injuries, which are not thought to be critical.

Dad-of-three Mr Jump, also known as Jon, was the managing director of a company supplying heating equipment and ran the three-acre farm on rented land as a sideline with his two children.

Gwent Police has launched an investigation into the incident which remains ongoing.

Detective Inspector Amanda Venn said: “Our thoughts remain with the family at this tragic time. The family have asked to be given time to grieve and we would ask that their privacy is respected.

“The force is also currently liaising with the Gwent Coroner Service in relation to this incident.”
